Our Story
My name is Joseph and I am the founder of JD Tree Services. Back in 2012 I did some work for a local tree surgeon. It was when I started climbing trees that I found my love for tree surgery.
From working at the prestigious Westonbirt National Arboretum to representing the UK in an international tree climbing competition in Washington DC this job has taken me to the other side of the world. The freedom and required focus I discovered from working at height led me to specialise in this for over 14 years...
Our Services
Pruning and Shaping
Maintain the health and aesthetics of your trees with our expert pruning and shaping services. We ensure proper growth and structural integrity for all tree types. Above is a large beech tree that we pruned and shaped. It is an example of how to reduce a large tree sympathetically in a way which guarantees good health for years to come.
Tree Removal and Dismantling
When removal is necessary, our team carries out tree felling safely and efficiently, minimising disruption and ensuring a clean site. This is a skill that takes many years to perfect. Doing the job in a calculated way with good communication minimises risks. Above is a picture of me taking down a large sycamore which unfortunately had damage to the upper canopy and poor formation making it dangerous to the house below.
Hedge Trimming and Topiary
We have a wealth of knowledge and practical experience trimming hedges into aesthetically pleasing shapes and more highly sculpted topiary forms. I am a member of the European Boxwood and Topiary Society and have spent years specialising in trimming. This includes work experience with one of the National Trust's head gardeners. All of our team are highly skilled in hedge trimming and well equipped to do work to the highest standard. Please see our gallery for more expertly clipped topiary.
Tree Support and Bracing
When a tree has signs of weakness it can be a choice of whether to remove it, or preferably in many cases, offer structural support in the form of bracing. In this picture I have used a system called 'cobra' which provides some degree of shock absorption as the tree moves. The idea behind this is that it strengthens weak unions that may otherwise be prone to failure. Often it is prudent to reduce the length of potentially compromised limbs in addition to bracing.
Stump Grinding
Remove unsightly and hazardous tree stumps with our professional grinding service, preparing your land for future landscaping. Marcus is an expert in this and undertakes stump grinding as part of our team whenever there is a larger stump to grind out.
Tree Health and Surveys
We offer comprehensive tree health assessments and surveys to diagnose issues and recommend the best course of action for your trees. Our highly qualified tree expert Alastair has specialised in this for many years. We have worked as a team for a long time and he is there to advise on the more technical aspects.
Woodland Work and Forestry
When it comes to work on woodland areas the skill we have felling in tight spaces comes into play. We are well equipped for most forestry jobs. Be it thinning or deadwooding, even straight felling large areas, this is a service we are proud to offer. My colleague Simon is an expert with the larger machinary and also sells seasoned firewood so if your wood pile is low be sure to give us a call!
Kit Inspections
It is a legal requirement that kit used for working at height is inspected by a competent person at regular intervals. For the last 10 years I have been a certified LOLER inspector and qualified to inspect kit. We are happy to provide this service to other tree companies so please don't hesitate to get in touch!
