Story from the founder 

My name is Joseph and I am the founder of JD Tree Services. Back in 2012 I did some work for a local tree surgeon. It was when I started climbing trees that I found my love for tree surgery.

From working at the prestigious Westonbirt National Arboretum to representing the UK in an international tree climbing competition in Washington DC this job has taken me to the other side of the world. The freedom and required focus I discovered from working at height led me to specialise in this for nearly 15 years.

It has given me a great diversity of work, from trimming large hedges to shaping the canopy of trees into precise and aesthetically pleasing forms. Even the highly skilled job of technical dismantling of trees over buildings. I found this immensely satisfying and rewarding.

My passion for tree climbing has taken me throughout the UK, Europe and even as far as the USA. In 2016 I entered a tree climbing competition and came first, making me the UK Tree Climbing champion. These successes reflect my commitment and love for what I do.  At around this time I was offered a job on the tree team at the world-renowned Westonbirt Arboretum, known for the splendour and diversity of the tree species grown and managed there.  

In 2018 the pull of adventure took me!  I chose to take my career to New Zealand. The scenery and lifestyle combined with the opportunity to do more shaping of shrubs and trees in an exciting new environment captivated me. In 2020 I landed a job with a larger company which put my specialist climbing skills to good use, trimming, shaping and dismantling trees in close proximity to power cables.  

In 2022 the need arose to be closer to family, and I made the decision to settle back in the UK. I have now set up my exciting new business. I have combined all of my experience and contacts to assemble a highly qualified team. In essence I have cherry picked the positive attributes and brilliant teachings of all the people I have worked with and encountered in the tree world on my adventures. This enables me to provide an exceptional service offering all aspects of tree surgery.
